Why I am running
Serving this incredible city has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me to lead our community. As I look back over the past years, I see a story of progress, resilience, and unity—the story of a city that shows up for its people.
When I took office, I made a commitment to govern with transparency and accountability; focus on smart investments, public safety, sustainability; and create opportunities for all who call Urbandale home. Together, we have delivered on that promise. We have shown that when we come together, we can tackle the biggest challenges with compassion and creativity.
We’ve achieved milestones that set Urbandale apart:
- National accreditation for our Fire Department and reaccreditation for our Police Department, reaffirming our community’s safety and trust.
- A new Human Services Strategic Plan, focusing on affordable housing, food insecurity, and youth services, to ensure that every resident has a foundation for success.
- A downtown revitalization plan and infrastructure projects like the Hickman Interchange, building a future-ready city while preserving Urbandale’s unique character.
- A commitment to sustainability with our Complete Streets initiative, native landscaping, and investments that reduce emissions and save taxpayer dollars.
This is only the beginning. Urbandale’s momentum is unstoppable, and I am running for reelection because the work is not done. Together, we will:
- Continue to prioritize public safety and ensure our first responders have the resources they need to protect our residents in a safe and effective manner.
- Expand opportunities for our youth through partnerships like Urbandale CareerCon, connecting students to local employers and lifelong success.
- Deliver on transformative projects like the Downtown Urbandale Master Plan, creating vibrant spaces for businesses, families, and the future.
- Focus on sustainability efforts, ensuring Urbandale remains a thriving, healthy city for generations to come.
While doing so, we will govern in a transparent and fiscally responsible manner, ensuring that Urbandale’s value proposition remains strong.
Urbandale is not just a place on the map—it’s a community of people who care for one another, who show up for one another. This is the heart of our city. As Mayor, I will continue to listen, to lead with integrity, and to work tirelessly to make Urbandale a city where every resident can thrive.
